Captain’s Newsletter

It is now just over 100 days since I had the honour of taking on the Captaincy of Powfoot Golf Club and I am thoroughly enjoying every minute. I would like to thank Kenny Johnstone for accepting the position of Vice Captain. We are working well and in harmony.

Thank you all who sent me good wishes and who supported me on the Club Opening Day and continue to do so.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Steven, Jackie, Anne and Lorna in the Office, John and Elaine, Lyn, Maria and Hazel for the work in Clubhouse and a special thanks to Neil, Alan, Stephen and Iain for their hard work during the winter months getting the course to the high standard it is and ready for the summer season. Many visitors have shown their appreciation by their positive comments.

The various Committee’s (Gents, Ladies, Greens/Range, Finance, Office, House, Health & Safety, Juniors, Marketing and Social) are working hard behind the scenes to keep the club moving forward and I thank them for this. Committee members have also been very visible to members and I thank them for that.

It is now nearly 10 years since the Clubhouse renovations started and we are now at the stage when repairs are again necessary to keep the building up to scratch. In the next few weeks the two Bay windows at front of clubhouse will be renewed (water ingress has made them unfit for purpose). The Gents entrance and wooden building is also starting to decay so a new door and window will be fitted with the whole of the wooden building being stripped and clad with PVC to visibly enhance that building. We have had the interior of the building repainted (Thanks to Jonjo O’Neill). The Dining Room has had new carpets and curtains fitted and is now suitable for use.

On course work was carried out throughout the winter months with the main work being the drainage along 2nd and across 13th fairway. This work has proven very successful. The Greenkeepers have been changing the look of some bunkers again. We have had good feedback on this. The Gents toilet block has also been repaired. A new Blue course has been put in place for those members who may want to play on a slightly shorter course that does not have as much carry from some tees to fairway. A 3 hole Junior beginners course has also been structured and this is proving to be a worthwhile addition. The car park has been relined to enable sensible parking to take place. The last bit of work soon to be done will be new signs to the Office and Entrances to the Clubhouse.

Finally can I thank Jamie Grant for his excellent work filming our course with his Drone. The edited version is on the web page and also on the new Coffee machine in the Lounge.

Once again can I thank everyone for their support and hope you have an excellent season and enjoy our wonderful course.
