Greens Maintenance 2026

Greens Maintenance Week

31st Aug – 4th Sept 2026

Plans for Greens Maintenance.

Greens 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 10th, 13th (bottom tier), 15th & 16th will all be hollow cored with a 13mm tine. After this these greens will be scarified and then a heavy top dressing (sand) application will be applied. Following this these greens will be pot seeded using a 15mm seeding tine then seed will be dropped into the holes alongside another heavy top dressing to fill up the holes created. Greens will then be brushed and rolled to complete the work. An organic fertiliser application will then be applied when the weather suits to increase results and recovery.

The greens listed above are more complicated to manage throughout the year and suffer from poor percolation during the winter months. This is partly due to having more organic matter in the soil profile which contributes to shallow rooting and the inability for the greens to drain freely in the wetter months. By doing this aggressive work to these greens it will allows us to reduce and dilute the existing Organic Matter and introduce larger volumes of sand into the soil profile. This should improve firmness and help make the greens more playable all year round by allowing them to drain more freely. This work is quite disruptive but it is essential that we carry out a more aggressive approach to these greens. Additionally, you will also notice that toad-rush ingress has been treated and successfully killed off on these areas. This is also a symptom of these greens holding onto too much moisture.

Greens 4-9, 11,12, 13 (top tier) 14,17 & 18

These greens will receive a deep scarify followed by a dimple seed and a heavy top dressing. This work is similar to what we carried out last year and there is very little disruption to the playing surface. Once the sand is brushed in the greens will be rolled and an Organic fertiliser application will be applied to increase results and recovery. We expect to be mowing these greens a couple of days after work has been completed.

These greens perform brilliantly all year round and are free draining hence why they don’t need an aggressive approach during maintenance week.

It is the goal through time to have 18 greens that perform similarly throughout the whole year.
