Captain September Update

Dear Fellow Members

The golf season continues to go very well with most competitions well supported by the members.  We are also getting our fair share of visitors which is very healthy for the club and we continue to receive lots of excellent feedback from them praising the course, thanking the staff and members for their warm welcome and also commending the catering.  All in all, things are going in the right direction.

However, we cannot rest on our laurels and we must continually strive to improve the facilities at the golf club. Many of you are aware we now have a games room with a pool table and a dartboard.  We will also be putting the fruit machine into this area.

The Committee have agreed to some further necessary, and much needed, course improvements –

  • Completion of the remaining bunkers that have not yet been upgraded as part of the Winter Programme,
  • move the bunker short of the 16th green up to the right of the green,
  • invest in the Driving Range with a superior matting along the range that you can put tees in. This will be a big improvement on the current facility.

The Committee have also agreed a 3 year plan to replace the old sprinkler/irrigation system. The existing system is 20+ years beyond its lifespan and the greenkeepers are regularly carrying out repairs. I will provide more detail on this in the future as we are still in the planning stage.

I am sure that most of our members are aware that we planned to have a ratification AGM on 10th September, with a vote on the constitution changes that were proposed 18 months ago.  I now feel that due to the current situation in Scotland, and more specifically in Dumfries and Galloway, it would not be responsible or sensible to hold this meeting.  The Committee have, therefore, agreed that this will need to be postponed at this time.

We have also had discussions regarding the end of season prizegiving events for the Otters, Ladies and Gents along with other planned social events.  We will make a final decision on the most sensible option for these events at the next committee meeting to be held on Monday the 27th September 2021.

Stay Safe
