Gents Winter Competition

Heron Cup & GRE Trophy 2025/26

This is a winter club competition and will not affect your official WHS Handicap Index.

• Members have the choice of using mats or lift & place in the Heron Cup. See rules below.
• Handicap will be 72% of course handicap, NB Handicap on cards shows 13 holes.
• 13 Strokeplay Hole Comp par 50
• No re draw
• Heron Cup to run over winter (Best 5 Rounds)
• GRE Trophy best gross eclectic score at each hole NB DQ rounds do not count
• Winter handicaps will be cut 0.1, 0.2 or 0.3 depending on handicap category you are in.
• Additionally, 0.1 received for all rounds over par

Divisions Guide

• • -10-6
  • 7-10
  • 11-14
  • 15-24 (approx. equal numbers of players. Divisions TBC after 4-5 weeks of play)

• Handicaps must be on card and signed. Rule 3.3b
• Tee times as per online booking
• Entry Fee £2.00 including 2’s. Two’s roles over if none recorded.
• Sweep prizes 1^st, 2^nd & 3^rd (numbers dependant)

Rules

• Lift & Place. A ball at rest on the fairway must be lifted and placed to the nearest side, not nearer the hole in the semi rough.
• Using Mats. The ball should be lifted, placed and played from the mat on the on the fairway only, no nearer the hole.

 All

• From the red lines into the green i.e. on the approach to the greens, the golfer may play out the hole as they wish.
• A ball outside the fairway e.g. semi rough, long rough or bunkers, must be played as it lies.
• Preferred Lies, when applicable, on fairways and green fringes only
• Plugged ball anywhere on course. Mark, lift, clean & drop. No penalty except in bunkers
• When playing summer greens, winter greens are G.U.R.
• When playing winter greens, summer greens are G.U.R.
• Bunkers full of water are G.U.R. Lift and play keeping bunker between yourself and the flag. Go back as far as you want
• 4 Ball play. Please allow 2 players, 3 players & quicker groups to play through.

Score recording

• Cards must be entered into computer. Any cards not entered will result in disqualification from all parts of the weekly competition and the scores will not count for eclectic purposes
• If the computer is not working this must be reported to staff so the appropriate actions can be taken
• All cards must be returned

Players who do not enter their scores on the clubhouse terminal will be dis-qualified from the whole competition.
