Greens Maintenance Week Update:

Firstly, thank you to the volunteers that assisted with the “switching”, your help was much appreciated by the team.

Maintenance week is our chance to give some major attention to your greens and continue our long-term strategy of promoting an increase of finer grasses. The increase in fine grasses includes a significant increase in fescue and these grasses are considered better in terms of putting performance, cost of maintenance & sustainability.

Work completed this week included:

All greens were initially scarified to help reduce thatch and promote firmer greens.  A significant amount of thatch was removed from the top 20mm.

They were then sprayed with T-Thatch, again to help reduce organic matter build-up (thatch).

All greens were then over-seeded with fescue, using our new over-seeder machine, which drops seed into holes punched in the green surface.  The remaining seed is then manually “switched” into the holes to maximise the seed getting into the surfaces. This process was significantly quickly than previously undertaken and certainly helped reduce the disruption to members.

All greens were then top-dressed with sand and the surfaces rolled.
